Carlton Fields Continues Growth of Intellectual Property Practice, Adds Jonathan Goodwill in New York

New York, N.Y. – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Jonathan Goodwill has joined the firm’s New York office as an associate in its Intellectual Property (IP) practice.
 
Goodwill is the third IP attorney to join the firm in 2019. In May, preeminent IP lawyer Clark W. Lackert joined the firm’s New York office. Prior to that, experienced patent attorney and IP litigator J. Coy Stull joined the firm’s Washington, D.C., and Tampa offices.

Goodwill handles all aspects of trademark, copyright, and domain name practice and portfolio management. His experience includes complex and cross-border matters involving enforcement, litigation, and corporate transactions, and his recent experience has included substantial matters involving fashion law, social media, licensing, and customs issues. He regularly assists clients with U.S. and foreign trademark clearance, filing, prosecution,   coexistence agreements, cease-and-desist letters, anti-counterfeiting and enforcement, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board proceedings, investigations, licensing, production, distribution, and supply agreements, brand valuation, M&A due diligence, assignments, settlement agreements, and security interests.  
 
As a member of the International Trademark Association’s Emerging Issues Committee, Goodwill recently contributed to a comprehensive study on international legislation concerning use of country names in trademarks and advertising. He has presented on topics involving U.S. and international trademark law at conferences and seminars in the United States, Japan, and China. His second language is German.
 
Previously, Goodwill was an associate with Reed Smith in New York. He earned his J.D. from Saint John’s University School of Law. He also holds an M.A. and a B.A. from Durham University in Durham, U.K. He is admitted to practice in New York and Maine.
