Carlton Fields’ D. Barret Broussard Elected President of Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia

Atlanta, Ga. – Carlton Fields litigator D. Barret Broussard was elected president of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia (SBA), the statewide bar association devoted to the interests of LGBTQ legal professionals. Broussard’s one-year term began Nov. 1.

Broussard was recognized at the SBA’s 25th Silver Gala and Annual Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 17, where he delivered remarks as incoming president to nearly 450 distinguished guests, including 50 judges from across the state. Speakers and honorees at the event included former Georgia House of Representatives Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, DeKalb County State Court Judge Mike Jacobs, and the founders of SBA. Carlton Fields is a Rainbow Sponsor of SBA.

Broussard has been a member of SBA since 2010, when he was a first-year student at Emory Law School. He served as the association’s 2018-19 vice president, and before that, he co-chaired its Law Student Outreach Committee for two years. In 2015, he was elected to serve on the association’s board of directors.

Broussard is active in Atlanta’s LGBTQ legal community. He serves as the Georgia representative to the National LGBT Bar Association and recently received the Best Lawyer Award from Georgia Voice, a premier media source for the LGBTQ community in Georgia. He is a member of the LEAD Atlanta Class of 2018, where he has engaged with civic and thought leaders throughout the metro Atlanta area. In addition, Broussard is an active member of the LEAD Atlanta Alumni Association.

At Carlton Fields, his litigation practice focuses on representing clients in a wide range of business disputes involving illegal business practices, unfair competition, theft of trade secrets, counterfeiting, trademark and copyright infringement, tortious interference, fraud, and breach of contract.

Broussard earned his J.D., with honors, from Emory University School of Law, and his B.S. from Brigham Young University.

About Stonewall Bar Association: The Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia (SBA) was founded in 1995 to serve many functions in the LGBTQ and the legal communities throughout the state. Primarily, the organization was founded to develop a coalition of legal workers to utilize their professional expertise to support the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and oppose discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. SBA’s membership includes not only lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, but straight allies as well, and it is open to all legal professionals and law students.
