Scott A. Richards Joins Carlton Fields in Orlando
Orlando, Fla. – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Scott A. Richards has joined the firm as an associate in its Orlando office. He is a member of the firm’s National Trial practice group’s Business Litigation section.
Prior to joining the firm, Richards was an associate at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC in Tampa. Before he practiced law, he was a Staff Geotechnical Engineer with Tierra, Inc.
Richards has substantial experience handling matters involving business and commercial litigation; bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, securitization and consumer protection; insurance coverage disputes and class actions. He has represented hospitals and insurers in transactions, compliance and litigation.
He brings a strong working knowledge of consumer protection laws such as the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act (FCCPA). He has defended clients in matters regarding violations of these statutes.
And with his civil engineering background and licensure, Richards is able to communicate effectively with construction industry and design professionals alike.
He was named a Florida Super Lawyers Rising Star (2013 to 2017). He is a member of The Florida Bar, the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Richards earned his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law and he received a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of South Florida College of Engineering.
