TracFone Secures $10M Judgment In Device Trafficking Row
A recent Carlton Fields court win on behalf of firm client TracFone was featured in a Law360 article. A Florida federal court awarded TracFone more than $10 million and issued a permanent injunction against defendant Nektova Group LLC and its operators, ending a lawsuit alleging a device trafficking scheme.
The case is part of Carlton Fields’ larger effort to stamp out cellphone trafficking on behalf of TracFone. The company has brought more than 80 device trafficking lawsuits nationwide, resulting in 74 permanent injunctions in its favor and more than $322 million in judgments against traffickers. Carlton Fields Telecommunications Industry Group Chair James B. Baldinger spoke to Law360 about the litigation.
“I think it’s important that people who are involved in this kind of conduct, or are thinking about getting involved in this conduct, know that TracFone is very serious about not allowing its phones to get trafficked in this manner,” Baldinger said. “TracFone is committed to taking whatever steps are necessary to pursue traffickers and shut them down in order to protect their customers and their company.”
