Fla. Governor OK Backup Generator Rules for Nursing Homes

Carlton Fields Senior Director of Government Consulting Beth A. Vecchioli was quoted in the Law360 article, “Fla. Governor OK Backup Generator Rules for Nursing Homes.” The permanent rules require all nursing homes and assisted living facilities to have emergency backup power. The rules are a response to the deaths of 13 elderly nursing home patients, who perished in September 2017 after Hurricane Irma knocked off the electricity in their nursing facility.

“The final version of the rules seems to be a win-win,” Vecchioli said. “All of the stakeholders were at the table and had productive conversations about the concerns and challenges that the facilities face as it relates to their ability to comply with the rules.”
