Okaloosa Commissioners Learn More About Beach Sand
Carlton Fields Tallahassee Of Counsel Matthew Leopold was quoted in the North Fort Walton Daily News article, “Okaloosa commissioners learn more about beach sand.” The article discusses controversies related to the sand that will be used for the restoration of Okaloosa Island’s Beach.
Leopold, who is working with city officials on beach restoration projects, shared:
[Some supporters] are very sensitized to storm-surge issues and have lived through the hurricanes of the past. They know that the only way to offer storm-surge protection is to build up the beach. They also said that sand from the OK-A site is of sufficient quality.
He also told the publication:
Opponents prefer considering sand sources other than the OK-A site and it would serve everyone’s interest to have a permit in hand in case of a catastrophic storm.
